101 Lines:

For this task, I've been given the challenge to produce as many lines that I could think of. When producing these lines, I have used a variety of mediums. Not all of my outcomes have been successful, yet, this task has given me the opportunity to experiment with processes and mediums. The mediums that I have used are: pen, pencil, watercolor and pastels.

With a lot of my mark makings, I have presented the uses of tone. I have done this by applying different amounts of pressure when using a certain medium. I believe that tone is important when mark making because it can add detail to your Illustrations.

When making my lines, I have tried thinking outside the box. I have evidenced this within my work by using different objects from around my house. For example, for certain pieces I used a tooth brush to create a variation of lines.

The material I enjoyed the most experimenting with was the pastels. This is because pastels allow you to smudge and blend colours and lines together. Also, I think this medium is perfect to use when you want to apply texture . To create the smudges, I used my fingers to drag the colours across the page. I believe that this is effective because the colours and the lines gradually fade.

When I used watercolor, I continued to blend and harmonise colours together. To create a variation of lines, I used a toothbrush to produces splatters across the page. For some of the lines, I tried using the edge of a coin. However, I don't believe it was effective because it didn't make a variation of lines.

Finally, when thinking about what lines to produce, I did consider making lines that link to emotions. The emotions I mainly focused on were: confusion, calm and anger. I enjoyed making these marks because they show my representations on these particular emotions. I believe that they are successful because they show the idea of how lines can communicate a certain emotion or message.
