5 Contemporary Artists that I like:
Here is a list of 5 Contemporary Artists that I like based on their line work:
Tim Burton- Before Tim Burton became a well known and successful film director, he started his career as an Illustrator. I like Burton's artwork because he isn't afraid of experimenting with a range of materials. A lot of his work is produced by using: watercolours, pens, paints and pencils. I think that the marks and lines that he produces are interesting because they are very expressive and they allow him to add tone and personalities to his characters.
Quentin Blake- I have always enjoyed looking at Quentin Blake's Illustrations because I have grown up seeing them when I read books by Roald Dahl. What I particularly like about his artwork is his imaginative, child-like style that draws you into the quirky characters within the books. The materials that he uses are mainly watercolor and pen. I like the lines that he produces because he makes a mixture of simple and detailed lines. I believe that this works really well because he adds detailed lines to relevant elements.
Laura Ellen Anderson- Lauren Ellen Anderson is a children's book Illustrator that is well known for her Illustrations for the book series called Amelia Fang. What I like about her artwork is that she experiments traditionally and digitally. When creating traditional pieces of artwork she likes to use ink. When making digital pieces of artwork she likes to use Photoshop. I like her line work because it is quite simple yet effective. A lot of her Illustrations are kept in black and white so some of these simple lines add tone.
Sophy Henn- Sophy used to work as an Art Director but she now is an author and illustrator for children's books. The materials that she likes to use within her artwork are pencils, ink and dip pens. I like the lines that she adds to her art because they look soft and delicate. I believe that these lines work really well because they add texture and tone to her character designs. A lot of her characters are animals and I believe that these particular lines add texture to the animal's fur.
T.S Spookytooth- Spookytooth is a children's book Illustrator. What I like about this artist's work is how he produces illustrations that can be seen as scary yet funny for children. Most of the characters he makes are drawn in a child-like style and the colour schemes appear gloomy. By looking at his artwork, I think that the materials that he uses are watercolor and paints. His line work is quite simple but the materials that he uses such as watercolor add extra details to his art such as adding texture to objects. These details add hints of realism to his child-like illustrations.
