This is not a tree project

This is not a Tree:

For this task, I created sixteen Illustrations that present the Red Maple Tree. I enjoyed this task because I was able to experiment with a range of materials and I was able to add different uses of linework.

This first image shows my first four Illustrations. I started this task by focusing on the trees appearance and it's surroundings. To focus on it's appearance, I have made a drawing of what they leaves look like based on their shape and colour. The other Illustrations present the surroundings around the tree. Such as the weather and animals that might live within the environment. The bottom left drawing shows how the wind is blowing the leaves from the tree. To represent the movement of the wind and of the leaves falling, I applied a variety of faint lines around the tree. I think these lines make this Illustration successful as they show the uses of visual communication. I believe that the other drawings are successful because I have added in the theme of nature within them.
Based on the materials I have used, I think these Illustrations are effective because I have used different materials. I used pencil, pen and felt tip. I believe that the linework on all of these drawings are effective because they reveal the uses of tone and texture.

For my next page, I have continued experimenting with a variety of materials. The materials that I have used for these pieces are pencil, pen, charcoal and pastel. To make these Illustrations successful, I have added a narrative. For example, for the top image, I have drawn sap flowing from the tree. I have drawn this to show the narrative of how sap is used from maple trees to make maple syrup. Another Illustration that I believe is successful is the Illustration on the right side of the image. I like this Illustration as I used my finger print to make the leaves on the tree. The material that I used for this is pastel. I have also used pastel for the bark of the tree. The pastel for the bark is effective as it reveals hints of tone and texture on certain parts of the bark. Overall, I think this Illustration is successful because I have experimented with different materials and methods.

I have continued using the materials of charcoal and pastel for these next Illustrations. I have mixed opinions about these outcomes as I believe some were more successful than others. The Red Maple Tree Illustration on the right side of image I don't think is effective as I don't like how the red and orange pastel blends together. To add tone on the bark, I have used charcoal. However, this Illustration has helped me to make my other piece of work effective. It has made it effective based on how my work has reflected on the other side of the page.
